Today, it is snowing in the Northeast. Whoop-dee-dang-doo! But I have to share an “oh shit” moment from this morning.
I was going along and about to pass an 18-wheeler in the passing lane when he shifted a little to the left (towards me). I instinctively shifted a little to my left for space but that put me out of the “grooves” and into a few inches of very heavy snow/slush. 0 steering feedback for the next couple seconds as I counter-steered to at least offset and slide (hoping my wheels would act as rudders in this shit), got off the accelerator pedal to shift weight forward and finally return to the cleared grooves.
Except, this wasn’t exactly an “oh shit” moment because I didn’t realize I did any of that until about 5 minutes later. Then I nearly shat myself.
I’VE GROWN AS A DRIVER!
Also, clear off your fucking windows people. Or use the defrost. Or your hand. SOMETHING!

Snow tires tend to solve that “need to stay in the grooves" problem. I always thought those grooves were just how you had to drive when the road got snowy. Then I tried snow tires and it was night and day. Changing lanes isn’t a scary slidey mess anymore! I still am waiting for the snow to come down here to NJ but I am glad my ski mountain must at least be getting some snow up in Vermont finally.

Oh, I have them. I wouldn’t be driving if I didn’t because my other set are summers that become hockey pucks under 45 degrees.

due to a little paperwork fuckup I still dont have tags for the Allroad so it sits for the first storm. I was excited for the snow, then I shoveled about 5’ of driveway and remember how much I hate this shit
